Oslo, Norway

Okay you caught me… i’m rapid firing all my blog posts all at once in a shotgun approach.  is this a no-no?  Let me know!

so i arrive in Oslo on Wednesday night of Jan. 8th and i head out to a plaza where there are supposed to be a few popping bar / lounges called Youngstorget and i’m sitting by myself and i get invited to an international table with people that are from a nearby hostel.  i thought it was interesting that 2 of the Norwegians i met at the table from northern Norway (where they can see the Northern lights all the time) served a few tours in afghanistan… it’s because they are a part of NaTO and have to help with their efforts.

thank god americans didn’t friendly fire on them, i’d feel so bad!

Here’s something ironic about scandinavia:

this is where the King of Norway lives.  Norwegians love him… and that’s the irony.  as socialist as Norway, sweden, and Denmark are, they have these monarchs that have it better than ever.  Now correct me if i’m wrong, but the King of Norway’s main responsibility is to sit on his money and worry about who he will marry his kids to.  He doesn’t even have to run a country anymore.  so all he really has to do is worry how to not spend all the money and keep all the lands his family has.  Tough life.

…While everyone else has to pay for stuff like this:

With the exchange rate, this “cheap” burrito (although tasty) was $20.  Normal beer at this decent nightclub, Lawo, (Lah-voo?)  on a thursday night:

With the exchange rate this beer costs:$16.  in Las Vegas they are $9-12!  i do love this city although expensive, the city layout is small.  Less than 3 american miles wide for the better Oslo area.  You can walk across the city in less than 40 minutes worst case scenario if you can’t catch one of these inter-city trams:

Catch you later!
