I wish we could just plug ourselves in an outlet and recharge

a view from my new hostel waking up here in Malmö

i woke up late in Copenhagen, Denmark and fell asleep very late in Malmö, sweden with all my nightclothes on.

i spent time with my “personal Dutch photographer” before she left for her New Year’s plans in iceland and we are mutually sharing the pictures for our blogs.  You will see some of them below from the day before.

i actually watched some Ted talks and another short informational movie to try to relax from the hangover.  Feel free to learn more since they were pretty eye opening in my opinion.

Wealth and inequality in america (spread the word because we think we’re #1 but we suck)

Looks like you don’t have to follow your dreams

We also took a walk around town.  Naturally i thought this photo was quite interesting.

Eventually, we shared a train to the airport for her flight and i could board the international train to Malmö.  there was a quiet section in the train (never knew these existed although was quickly made aware by an older swedish Gentleman when talking to this really nice half polish / half iraqi Malmö resident who didn’t bother to tell me.  Eventually she gave me directions and wanted to talk again).

then i met my hostel bunk mate a 20yr. old systems Engineer from Canada who will be studying in Germany for 4 months.  Why was the Canadian in the 3 rd largest city in sweden?  HOCKEY of course!  there’s a multi-day tournament of u-20 international players.  the whole city is swarming with Canadians ey.  they are so into hockey they need to know who is coming into the NHL scene.

We decide to take a chance that there might be something happening and we had to ask a few swedes where some bars might be.  We find some.  and we meet (another Canadian) international NHL photographer, andre Ringuette, who’s been doing it for 20 years who LOVEs what he does.  He talked about how everyone told him early in his career that if you want to make money in photography he needs to do weddings and such.  He knew it was not him and he stuck to sports in Canada (Hockey).  through many roadblocks and speed bumps he’s one of the most sought after photographers.  always good to hear those kind of stories right?

i ended the night talking to a swedish guy for almost an hour about everything.  Just learning more about the world.  He actually loves italy and wants to move there for its culture and people.  Everyone is different i suppose.  then i go to McDonalds to save some money and i run into that same swede again. Haha.  Fell asleep in all my clothes since i’ve been running on empty… time for a nap!

at night i ended up drinking in my pajamas for hours in the hostel and met this TOO well traveled swiss guy.  i asked him have you been to america he said “of course”.  Have you been to spain?  “Of course”.  He wants to go the Latin america since it’s the only place he hasn’t been.  What a problem, to have one area of the world left to go.  and yes there are 4 languages in switzerland, but of course one is predominant and that’s swiss German.

Had another crazy night adventure and ended up having to play baby sitter for some drunk girl.  i thought college was over?!
