Har du en tändare? Last night i asked some kid in the street if he had a lighter for the fireworks i just bought. then i asked if he wanted to light it and use it. He grabbed the firework from my hand which someone had told me you’re supposed to put in a bottle. He would not listen to me as he just kept it in his own hand and lit it as his friends watched. i yelled and yelled. His confidence was not was of ignorance. Eventually the sparkling wick fizzed and the rocket guided stick blasted from his hands. that was New Year’s Eve. i shared the New Year’s Eve experience with a girl i had met up with in sweden. We were able to watch the fireworks and light off some of our own as well.
Here’s a shot of a major square in Malmö before the fireworks of the night.
but, today i woke up and walked around trying to recover from a fun New Year’s Eve and watched a few Ted talks before heading on a bus to my current hostel in Gothenburg, sweden. Here are the Ted talks before i tell my crazy story that happened to me a few hours ago:
(it’s quite rare to find an obese person here in scandanavia… We really need to watch what we eat…)
(Did you know you can make money by “investing in social change?”)
so here’s the crazy story…
so i’m on the 3 hour bus ride going north to Gothenburg from Malmö. i ask the girl behind me how long it’s supposed to be because Google maps tells me 2.5hrs., but you never know with buses. We end up talking for the WHolE bus ride. she’s an archaeology major with a masters in Museum and cultural art i believe it was. she was inspired by Vikings but is now interested in contemporary development discrepancies. like how could the Roman’s be so “advanced” yet Vikings be so “backward” at the same time? Or how could Neanderthals be married to Homo sapien’s at the same time? Meh who knows, but she had a very swedish type name yet quite unique in my opinion. Ylva? but i digress. so she let me know she was getting picked up by her guy friend afterwards. We get off the bus, i meet him and he tells me he’s originally from up north in sweden. it’s a pretty long country but i doubted he was from what seems like the North pole. Well you’re either from up North of stockholm which is uppsala or from an area in between that and Norway. i knew of one small city of 5,000 people in that area (which was where my ex girlfriend was from), sunne. so i let him know “Oh cool, my ex was from around there if you weren’t from uppsala, she was from sunne.
Lo and behold… he was from there. Lo and behold… he knew her after i dropped her name… and he was good friends with her bEsT friend who lived in Gothenburg… hey what can you expect from a country with only 9 million people? then the girl chimed in after hearing the best friend’s name and said that she’s going to that best friend’s 30 th birthday party hahahahahaha. wow wow wee wow.
small world. Goodnight!
